Type Locality and Naming

Along the Belkuduk well, northern slope of the Muruntay Mountains, Central Kyzylkum. 3. S. Rumyantseva, 1965 (457, p.337); 1974 (386, pp.15-19). Stratotype 1 km west of the Belkuduk well, Muruntay Mountains.

Synonym: Belkuduk Suite, Белькудукская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Dark gray finely layered bituminous limestones with lenticular interlayers and quartzite concretions. At the base - a horizon with bauxites and bauxite-like rocks, Thickness 90m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies transgressively on the limestones of the Baymensay Fm (same as South Murunkuduk Fm)

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the limestones of the northern North Muruntau Fm (165; 439; 460).

Regional extent

Central Kyzylkum, Bukantau (southern slope of the Tubabergen Mountains from the Belimen well to the Kuluduk village, Irlir Ridge); southern slope of the Aktau Mountains, Muruntay Mountains.

Fossils

In some interlayers - numerous corals, brachiopods, gastropods, foraminifera, algae. Foraminifera - Eostaffella postmosquensis Kir., E. acuta Gr. et Leb., Millerella aff, umbonata Kir., Novella evoluta mosquensis Raus., Pseudostaffella antiqua (Dutk.), P. praegorskyi Raus., P. proozawai Kir., Ozawainella pararhomboidalis Man., O. donbassensis Sosn., Profuzulinella oblonga Pot., P. convoluta (Lee et Chen), P. rhombiformis Brazhn. et Pot., Verella aff. spicata Dalm., V. acuminata Rum., V. muruntavica Rum., V. normalis Rum., Asteroarchaediscus baschkiricus (Krest. et Theod.), A. postrugosus (Reitl.), Bradyina cribrostomata Raus. et Bel. and others; brachiopods - Neophricodothyris cf. asiatica (Chao), Choristites ex gr. bisulcatiformis Semich.
